About the game
Many games that take you to space involve taking over the galaxyor fighting intense space battles. But in Kerbal Space Program, simply getting to space is the battle. Now, with the BreakingGround DLC, that battle is extended to other worlds.
Kerbal Space Program could be renamed to “Orbital Mechanics: THEGAME” and it’s doubtful that anyone would protest. The game tasksplayers with managing the space program of a race known as Kerbals, and assembles rockets and spacecraft to take Kerbal astronauts tospace. Simply escaping the gravity of the Kerbal homeworld is badenough, but exploring the rest of the solar system requiresadvanced orbital mechanics that are similar to those used in reallife space exploration. Thanks to a realistic physics engine, thegame allows players to use these maneuvers.
Now, the latest expansion pack for Kerbal Space Program,Breaking Ground, has finally dropped – literally. The game providesa variety of scientific opportunities for Kerbals once they touchdown on another celestial body. They can deploy equipment, scientific instruments, and experiments on planetary surfaces. Oneexample is the seismometer, which requires players to crash objectsonto planetary surfaces in order to collect data.
The expansion pack also adds robotics to the game, allowing foreven more features and capabilities on their spacecraft, whileintroducing new challenges thanks to the additional weight thatrobotics require on a ship. The robotics equipment also has its ownunique mechanics that are governed by physics, from torque to powerconsumption.
Breaking Ground also changes the landscape of planetsthemselves, adding new terrain features like cryovolcanoes, craters, and more. Some of these features can be scanned with thenew robotic tools and scientific instruments, and explored withmanned or unmanned rovers.
Kerbal Space Program: Breaking Ground is currently available onMicrosoft Windows.
